He knew what was going to happen; he could have stopped it before it even got started. Not saying him being a weak-minded follower makes him "bad", but it isn't like he had clean hands in the matter.Originally posted by Shypappette:
Well, I never said James was a hero. I think he was probably one of those stupid popular teenagers who don't think about what they're doing. But really it was Sirius who tried to kill Snape, not James.
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I think (perhaps) you don't give enough weight to the fact he has to keep up a certain level of appearances for the Death Eaters/bad guys. Everything he does at that school gets back to the Death Eaters via their children. He has to be over the top/ruthless to cement that "rep" - especially given that he could be/is on shaky ground given his renouncement of the Death Eaters at trial. He has to convince them he is still on their side. How else to demonstrate that, and on a daily basis, than by slamming the House (and all in it) of the person who brought down "your" Lord? He really has no room to pick and choose when to "be nice" in that regard. It's an all or nothing approach with the Death Eaters, and he has to sell that image 24/7 because he always has someone watching him who can/will report back on his actions.Originally posted by Shypappette:
What about when he refereed the quiddich match for Gryphindor against Hufflepuff and kept giving Gryphindor penalties for no reason. THAT and he obviously favours his own house. That's just not a very stand up way to act.

But he made fun of Hermione, and that makes him a bastard.
And come on now.... can you honestly say she never got on your last nerve? She was a pretty pushy/snobby little thing in the first two books (#1 in particular).
